Most bookings are made in blocks of 10 but individual sessions are bookable too. Current prices are shown on our web site.
School issues
Schools take different approaches to the use of tutors. Some are very professional and not only accept it but make use of them to improve the students and school results. Other schools are very suspicious and negative. You will have to decide how your school reacts. If the school
It helps us both if I can have regular updates on the schools calendar, trips, etc. Internal and external examination dates are very important and we plan to work within these. Please keep me up to date with letters home about subjects, exams etc.
Teacher issues
As with schools some teachers work with tutors and some see them as a criticism of their work (which it isn’t). If your teacher gives out an advance lesson scheme I will work with this and plan around it. If they don’t seem to have a plan then we will predict from how they seem to be working.
Grades
It helps me to know the school’s estimated grade but I will make my own judgement after a week or so. I will guarantee to improve the grade reached and usually students gain A or A* grades (they need to do the work though!!)
General
Learning is a skill that can be learnt itself, i.e. you can train to get better at learning. I work on these skills to help improve both understanding and recall (remembering what you know). The most important skill at school and with me is the student becoming confident to ask questions.
Do ask if you need any advice, general or specific. The charges I make include your ability to email or phone me when you like. I am glad to arrange additional sessions for snap exams, upcoming internal tests or difficult homework.
Materials
I provide curriculum materials, syllabuses, a folder and any practical materials (included in session charges, not additional).
Health and safety
I am a fully qualified and accredited science teacher. I don’t have equipment and resources for all science experiments and don’t copy what teachers do in their labs, but often I am able with your permission to do experiments that are not done at school for health and safety reasons. I will always make sure you understand and agree before we do anything but often the issue is school is a fear of legal action or the difficulty of doing experiments with whole groups.
Safeguarding
I am the holder of an enhanced DBS check to reassure parents that I am a suitable adult to work with their children. New government rules have replaced the old CRB with a Disclosure and Barring Check.
